No doubt that the news has reached the ends of the globe right now: Detroit's youngest mayor is now Detroit's first incarcerated.
This man is ruining the image of Detroit and Michigan, far worse than the whole "most violent" and "most obese" titles ever could. He is making people across the globe laugh at us. It is sickening and disheartening at the same time.
I have sent the following email to our Governor, and encourage everyone else within this state to do so (if you use my email, please be sure to change "Frank K. Clark" at the bottom to your name - duh!). The email address to send to is: gov_feed_back@michigan.gov
Dear Ms. Grandholm,
Never in our history has any one man caused so much scandal, controversy, and embarrassment to this great state of Michigan.
Since taking office in 2002, Mr. Kilpatrick has personally been the subject of interest in numerous, often heinous, instances: 1. The party at Manoogian Mansion 2. The murder of Tamara Greene 3. The obtainment of city property for personal use (specifically, the police motorcycle and the Lincoln Navigator) 4. Violation of the Whistleblower's act 5. The text-message scandal, and the perjury he committed 6. Misuse of city funds for personal use 7. Engaging in slander against city officials 8. Inappropriate behavior in our nation's capitol 9. Blatant nepotism (specifically, that of placing his less-than-qualified family and friends into high-powered, high-paying positions) 10. Use of influence upon the police and court to drop charges against a high-powered minister involved in a prostitution case 11. Death threats against Wayne county prosecutor Kim Worthy 12. Assault against a police officer
We can now add to this list the most recent events of violating his bond twice.
Mr. Kilpatrick is the first mayor in the history of Detroit to be incarcerated while in office. His antics have not only been nationwide news, but have also made it onto the international scene. He is single-handely causing Michigan - the former automotive capitol of the world - to become a laughingstock.
In 6 short years, he has caused more damage to Detroit and its suburbs than Coleman Young caused in 19. This damage is more potent because it has now entered into the international arena.
Our economy in this state is depressed enough by itself. Politics and labor unions are forcing many of our most cherished companies to lay off employees and seek headquarters in other states. The people in this state are quickly becoming irritated with how things are being handled by our house and senate. We do not need the utter chaos which the mayor of our state's largest city is generating.
We need unity. We need reform. We need to show the world that Michigan is still the greatest place to live, work, and conduct business in. We do not need scandal, controversy, nor embarrassment on the world-wide stage. We need action.
I urge you to please step in and remove Mr. Kilpatrick as the mayor of Detroit. How much more nonsense must we endure from this inexperienced and inept man before something is done? How much longer must we dread watching CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News for fear that our state will be dragged through the mud on account of Mr. Kilpatrick?
Please take action now. Trials, hearings, appeals - these can take months and years. Help our state avoid further embarrassment and remove him now. Refusing to take any action is just causing our wonderful state to look even worse.
Sincerely, Frank K. Clark |
